Q: How do I Connect the PESD to my Equipment?

A: One of the preferred methods that would be UL approved is to use a One or Two Hole Crimp Lug to secure the PESD lead.  This is not applicable to all equipment is specific to the component being wired to.  Wiring to the location of interest within your circuit may not have or be able to use a One or Two Hole Crimp Lug.

Here are the steps wire a PESD to Equipment Using a One or Two Hole Crimp Lug to Secure the PESD wire:

  1. Deenergize Equipment: Disconnect power and verify absence of voltage using the facilities' guidelines and industry best practices.
  2. Crimp Ring Terminal: Crimp Ring Terminals to the PESD leads, ensuring the ring terminal is appropriately sized for the stud or bolt.  These typically range from #6 to 5/8" so ensure correct fit when selecting.
  3. Install Grace PESD: Mechanically install the Grace PESD per the included installation guide.  Route the wires from the PESD to the connection point.
  4. Remove Crimp Bolt: Remove the crimp bolt that is or will be used to secure the Crimp Lug in place.
  5. Reinstall Crimp Bolt with PESD Ring Terminal: Reinstall the bolt with the PESD ring terminal in place, ensuring all best installation practices and installation guidelines are met.  This includes properly torqueing the connection and providing proper wire management.

Notes:

The above applies to all of our Grace PESD family, including Voltage Indicators, Test Points, and Combination Units like the ChekVolt.

PESD wires range from 18 AWG to 12 AWG, depending on the model.  Verify the correct fit and use an appropriately sized ring terminal for the conductor.  Below is a listing for Stakon terminals:

  • Red nylon ring/Stakon terminals for 22-18GA wire.

  • Blue nylon ring/Stakon terminals for 16-14GA wire.
