Question 5: What is an OSHA letter of Interpretation (LOI)?

OSHA standards take years to approve and tend to be more general than consensus standards like NFPA 70e. Due to the changing nature of safety, the public may submit specific questions on the application of an OSHA standard in a particular situation. In turn OSHA issues a Letter of Interpretation that addresses that question.

TempCover® was not a viable product at the time the OSHA standards were approved. There were two LOI?s issued that addressed the use of TempCover® in a construction zone and in general industries. The OSHA regulations along with the LOI are used by OSHA enforcement.
